A MacBook that won't respond can range from a drained battery to a logic board issue. Try these steps in order — they're safe and often resolve the problem.

Check power and charging

Hold the power button for 10 seconds, then connect a known-good charger and wait 15 minutes. Look for the charging indicator — if nothing appears, try a different outlet and cable.

Reset SMC (Intel Macs)

Shut down, then hold Shift + Control + Option on the left side plus the power button for 10 seconds. Release all keys, then press power normally. On Apple Silicon Macs, a forced restart (hold power 10s) often achieves the same result.

Listen and look

Any liquid exposure? Swollen battery pushing up the trackpad? These are signs you should stop troubleshooting and bring the machine in — powering on liquid-damaged boards can make recovery harder.

When it's likely board-level

No charging light, no fan spin, no response after SMC reset — often a power delivery or logic board fault. Tech4Service performs board-level diagnostics and microsoldering when replacement isn't the best option.
